Change to the Massachusetts State Markings Regulation 540 CMR 2:22  that will take effect on September 1, 2018, which impacts many commercial motor vehicles. These changes effect markings on motor trucks used for transportation of goods, wares or merchandise for hire, gain or reward, and new requirements for having a U.S. DOT Number assignment for intrastate carriers.

MassDOT Registrar of Motor Vehicles Erin Deveney announced today that applications for the 2016 Low Number Plate Lottery are now being accepted online or by U.S. mail.

If you have a CDL or CLP, be aware that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has amended Commercial Driver License standards. This regulation is referred to as the “CDL Permit Rule”. The Massachusetts RMV will implement the rule starting in July 2016. 

Due to a mailing issue, the Massachusetts RMV is still renewing registrations that expire in December 2016. If your December renewal has been delayed, you may still be eligible to renew online (assuming that no insurance stamp is required).

The RMV is encouraging all customers to visit MassRMV.com to determine their eligibility for an online transaction before getting in line at a local branch.
