The Beginning
D. Francis “Frank” Murphy
In 1937, D. Francis “Frank” Murphy started Murphy Insurance Agency in Hudson, Massachusetts. He had “passion” for the insurance business, his customers, and his family and friends. Despite the challenges of the Great Depression, Frank’s dedication to serving people propelled the agency forward.
Frank was quite good at taking care of people and had already built a great business with many loyal customers. Under Frank’s leadership, Murphy Insurance grew steadily, earning the trust and loyalty of numerous clients until his passing in 1964.
The Next Generation
His son, Dennis F. Murphy, Jr. joined the Agency in 1960, sharing in his dad’s passion and love of the business. Under Dennis, Jr.’s watch, the Agency grew from a single person, Hudson based operation into a 60+ person regional operation with 6 locations. Dennis Jr.’s vision and dedication transformed the agency from a single-person operation into a regional powerhouse with six locations and over 60 employees. Until his passing in 2021, Dennis Jr. led the agency with the same passion and integrity instilled by his father.

The Third Generation
Today, in 2024 the agency is still very much a family-owned agency. Michael Murphy and Dennis F. Murphy, III joined the Agency in the early 1990’s and share in the family’s deep caring for the business and its customers. We’ve taken care of many clients for their whole lives. In fact, we now work with third and fourth generations of client families.
