Marlborough Hospital President and CEO John Polanowicz has announced the election of two board of trustee members to leadership positions.

Richard K. Bennett, president and CEO of Marlborough Savings Bank, has been elected chairman of Marlborough Hospital’s board of trustees. The Marlborough Hospital board of trustees is an all volunteer board.

Bennett is president and CEO of Marlborough Savings Bank, joining the bank in 2001. At Marlborough Savings Bank, Mr. Bennett oversees its daily operations. He has been a member of the Marlborough Hospital board of trustees since 2004.  In addition to his role with Marlborough Hospital, he has served as president and director of the Marlborough Rotary Club, and as one of the directors of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Bennett resides in Stow.

Mr. Bennett takes over the chairmanship from Cornelius “Neil” Ferris of Southborough, who is retiring after serving 10 years as a member of the Marlborough Hospital board of trustees, eight of those years as chairman. Mr. Ferris also served four years as a member of the UMass Memorial Health Care system board of trustees.

Michael D. Murphy, president of D. Francis Murphy Insurance in Hudson, has been appointed vice-chairman.

Murphy began serving on the development committee of the hospital in 2005 and has been a member of the Marlborough Hospital board since 2008. He is president of D. Francis Murphy Insurance in Hudson and has been with the agency for over 20 years. Mr. Murphy has served on the board of the Marlborough Economic Development Council and the development committee for the Boys and Girls Club of MetroWest. He resides in Bolton.

We are grateful to have these two respected leaders take on these leadership roles at such a critical time in health care,” said Polanowicz. “Rick and Michael bring a great deal of experience in guiding their respective organizations to much success and growth. We look forward to their guidance as the hospital continues to expand its services to the community and our ongoing focus on patient care.”

Murphy and Bennett assumed their new positions in March.
