Winter seems to be making up for lost time. While Massachusetts didn’t have that much snow in earlier winter months, February appears to be making up for it. The snow continues to accumulate with snow this week and there are several more weeks of winter ahead. Property owners are working to keep driveways parking lots and sidewalks cleared. And, when we get this much snow, it’s important to keep an eye on roofs and take steps to reduce the risk of damage from ice dams and excessive snow load weight.
As we continue through the remaining weeks of winter, please keep one word in mine…SAFETY! The last thing that anyone should do in trying to prevent damage is to create a hazard situation. Shoveling snow off a slippery roof can be dangerous, which is why we highly recommend hiring a professional to do such work. We know many property owners make their own attempts to remove snow, so please use extreme caution if you do so. Falling off a roof isn’t a risk worth taking. Also, if not done properly, some attempts to remove ice dams can cause damage, which could make a bad situation worse.
