MassRMV: FasTrack License Renewal Self-Service Kiosks

FasTrack service is available at select MA RMV branches, including Boston’s Haymarket, Worcester, Springfield, and more. This self-service kiosk allows eligible customers to take their own photo, complete transactions quickly, and receive a temporary credential, with the permanent license or ID mailed to their address.

CDL Self-Certification Deadline Extended to April 30, 2014

The MassDOT RMV has extended the deadline for CDL holders to submit self-certification information and a copy of the US DOT Medical Certificate to April 30, 2014, in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements.

Commercial Drivers License – Self Certification Deadline January 30, 2014

As per 2012 Federal and State mandates, Commercial Driver’s License holders must notify their state’s RMV about their commerce type (interstate or intrastate) and medical certificate necessity. All CDL holders must self-certify by January 30, 2014, to comply with these requirements.

MA RMV Restores Renewal Reminders by Mail

The RMV has resumed its birthday postcard reminder service, notifying drivers if they can renew online or must visit a branch. Supported by advertising, this service helps Massachusetts’ 4.75 million licensed drivers stay updated, with 87,000–92,000 postcards sent monthly.

RMV requires 72 Hour Notice to Cancel Road Test

Effective November 13, 2013, the MA RMV requires 72 hours’ notice (instead of 24) to cancel or reschedule a road test without paying the fee. This includes weekends and holidays, and cancellations can be made online or via the automated phone system when RMV offices are closed.

New Massachusetts Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection Requirements 2008

Since October 1, 2008, an annual enhanced Massachusetts Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection has been mandated for single, full, or semi-trailers exceeding 3,000 pounds GVWR, as well as commercial vehicle/trailer combinations over 10,000 pounds GCVWR, and heavy-duty motor vehicles exceeding 10,000 pounds GVWR, including converter dollies.
