Ashland is located 28 miles west of Boston in Middlesex county in the region known as Metrowest. It is primarily a residential community, but has a good relationship with its local business community. Ashland was the original starting point of the world famous Boston Marathon, which still runs through the town. Local inventor Henry Warren invented the electric clock, which was manufactured in Ashland under the name Techtron. The town has open town meeting form of government and has 3 elected Selectmen as well as Town Manager. The local high school is Ashland High School.
