Mass RMV stops sending driver's license renewal notices effective November 2008

When your birthday comes around,
check if your driver's license expires.

NOVEMBER 3, 2008  - Due to budget constraints the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is no longer sending Mass Driver's License renewal notices to consumers.

This means that all driver's need to be aware of their driver's license expiration date so that they can get their license renewed.  Expiration dates fall on your date of birth, so check a month or so prior your birthday to see if your license is due to expire.  Make sure you renew at least 7 days before your birthday to ensure you receive it before your old one expires.

Information about renewing your driver's license can be found on the RMV web site through the following link, MA Driver's License Renewal.

The Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents has filed legislation to require the RMV to send license renewal notices to consumers; however, it cannot be projected if this effort will be successful.

In addition to no longer mailing driver's license renewal notices, the RMV also no longer mails out the following:

  • Mass ID Renewal notices
  • License reinstatement letters
  • Registration reinstatement letters
  • Vehicle Inspection reminder letters for vehicles that are overdue for inspection
  • Inspector license renewal notices
  • 7D license renewal notices
  • Driver's Education Certificates
  • Junior Operator Brochures for parents (still available in branches)
  • Change of address labels (customers can create their own)
